Graduated in 1970 from the Philology Faculty in Belgrade, General Literature with Theory Department, and also from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, at the Philosophy Group. She defended her master’s thesis at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade and earned her PhD at the Philosophy Faculty of the University in Zagreb. Worked at the Institute of Literature and Art in Belgrade as scientific researcher.
She was a fellow of the French government at the Ecole pratique des hautes études in Paris and of the Republic Community for Science at New York University.

From 1994 to 1998 she was the minister of culture in the Serbian Government, and between 1999 and 2001 ambassador at the Unseco in Paris. Between 2002 and 2004 she taught at Jussieu, Paris 7, as a visiting professor.

She has been a regular contributor to the radio Programme Three for many years and had her own column Miscelanea in Književna reč, where she was also a member of the editorial staff. Member of the Writers’ Association since 1980. Regular poetry critic for NIN weekly. Editor and collaborator of annals published as a result of scientific conferences held in Dubrovnik, published by the University of Utrecht, Netherlands, and Paris 7, Jussieu, France.

Translated from French the following books: Jean Piaget, Le structuralisme and Georges Mounin, Linguistique et philosophie. Published over 50 texts in domestic and foreign professional journals. Her book Literatura kao zavođenje [Literature as Seduction] was published by Prosveta in 1986, while the second amended edition was released by the same publisher in 2004. Another two books, Teorijski diskurs postmoderne [Theoretical Discourse of Postmodernism] and Znak, slika, značenje [Symbol, Picture, Meaning], are forthcoming.
